Stage Fright Blitz ebook

Not everyone responds well to commonly used techniques for relaxation to fight Stage Fright.

Not everyone can feel comfortable on stage, no matter how many hours they spend rehearsing and practicing.  Luckily there are some proven medications to help treat anxiety, stage fright, and the stress of tough situations.

Natural Medications:

If you are concerned about the expense of prescription medication or if you feel that your anxiety or stage fright is mild enough to take care of on your own you may think about some herbal cures.  Remember to speak with your doctor before trying to self-medicate.  Plus you should do your research to learn as much as possible about the different natural treatments available and their dangers.

Anxiety is a very common modern ailment, but there are plenty of herbal cures that have been used for thousands of years to treat the condition.

  1. Balm: Some researchers in other countries have widely recommended using Balm Oil to treat anxiety.  It’s touted as a mild sedative and tranquilizer.  One very easy way to calm down before a stressful presentation is to take a warm bath with a few drops of Balm Oil in it or you can tie a handful of the herb into cheesecloth and toss the sachet into the bath.  This plant has a refreshing lemony fragrance that will help to relax you.
  1. Chamomile: Plenty of people today drink Chamomile tea before bedtime as a way to calm down.  You can also try some before your speech or take a bottle of cold Chamomile tea up on stage with you to drink from during your presentation.  It’s great for soothing frayed nerves and works by slowing down the central nervous system.
  1. Lavender: It’s not only a pretty color, but a pretty good treatment for anxiety and stress.  Try drinking a cup of Lavender tea before you go up on stage for its mild sedative effects.  Another little bonus is that Lavender helps to relieve a gassy stomach.
  1. Skullcap: This is an herb that can help to counter some of the physical effects of anxiety like muscle tension.  There are a couple of ways to take this herb.  You can start taking one capsule up to three times daily or make a tea from the herb and drink it before the event.

As with any new medication you should thoroughly research your herbal treatments, discuss them with someone knowledgeable and try it out before your presentation just to make sure you don’t have any negative reactions.  Some people find that Chamomile has the opposite effect on them.  Instead of calming them down it can actually make them more nervous for a short period.  So do a couple of test runs.

Prescription Treatments:

You can go to your doctor or a therapist to get medical help for stage fright and anxiety too.  There are some well known and not so well known medications for excessive stress and anxiety.

  1. Atvian: this is also known as Lorazepam generically.  It one of the Benzodiazepine tranquilizers that have been used for years in the treatment of anxiety.  This is a popular drug for use during short to medium periods of time.   If you plan on using this drug to relieve your anxiety before going on stage, then be aware that it does have some addictive properties.

  1. Buspar: An anxiolytic agent , this one doesn’t have any indications for addiction and there  aren’t any cross tolerances with Benzodiazepine drugs, Barbiturates and alcohol.   This drug needs about 1 to 3 weeks before it really starts working to reduce anxiety though and there are some unpleasant side effects.
  1. Propranolol - This is the generic name for Inderal, Sumial and many other name brands.  It was one of the first Beta Blockers and is used by many for treatment in Stage Fright.  One dosage lasts for about 12 hours.  It’s considered very good for stage fright because it also reduces sweating, tremors and the clammy hands associated with anxiety.  There are some side effects so discuss this or any medication with your doctor before taking.

These are just a few of the medications that can be used to help reduce anxiety and stage fright before you go on stage.  Some of these prescription medications can require weeks before they start to work, while others require only a few hours.  Be sure to let your doctor know that you’ll need your medication to help quell those moments of extreme stage fright when asking about an anti-anxiety medication.
