Stage Fright Blitz ebook

It is completely possible to overcome stage fright using natural and herbal remedies – you just need to know which ones to use.  When used in combination with other techniques, such as meditation and performance practice, these remedies can have you overcoming stage fright in no time.

There are many different remedies available, but as with all things, you must be aware of both the benefits as well as the potential side effects.  Before using any of these remedies, consult with your doctor to ensure that they are safe for your particular conditions.

Valerian
Type of Remedy:  Herbal
Usual Form:  powder, liquid, dried herb, or pill
Primary Use:  relieve anxiety

Additional Functions:  Relieve depression, poor sleeping patterns, and lessen stomach and menstrual cramps

Safety Concerns:  possible (but rare) headaches, upset stomachs, abnormal heartbeats, and insomnia.  Don’t take it with any other medication or when operating machinery.

Overall:  Any herb that is natural, can help calm you before your performance, and also relieves menstrual cramps deserves a gold star!  Just make sure you talk to your doctor before taking it.

Kava
Type of Remedy:  Herbal – Root
Usual Form:  tea or powder form
Primary Use:  calming

Additional Functions:  Relieve anxiety, sleeplessness, muscle tension, and muscle spasms

Safety Concerns:
  Unlike valerian, kava has some severe side effects such as possible liver problems after prolonged use.  It is not recommended to use kava for longer than 3 months.

Overall:
  While the benefits might be nice, it is not worth the potential side effects.  Stay away from this one.

Argentum Nitricum
Type of Remedy:  Homeopathic
Usual Form:  pill
Primary Use:  Reducing apprehension

Additional Functions:  Calms nerves, decreases anxiety, reduces high blood pressure, helps motion sickness, and reduces cravings for sweets

Safety Concerns:  Don’t take it with coffee or milk, since it might have a bad reaction.  Not to be used in combination with other medications or herbal remedies.  There are also concerns with taking this while pregnant or breast feeding.

Overall:  This remedy appears to be safe and has many different uses – however, be cautious since it, like most herbal and homeopathic remedies, has not been approved by the FDA.

Whatever natural or herbal remedy you decide to try, keep these tips in mind to make sure that you find the one which is best suited to help you overcome your performance anxiety without causing any other unwanted side effects. 

  • Always check with your doctor before beginning use of one of these remedies
  • Don’t mix these remedies together with either each other or other medications
  • Only use the amount you actually need.  Ideally, these should only be used on high stress performance days, since the more you take, the more likely you are to experience the side effects.  Additionally, many of these remedies lose effectiveness the more often you take them since your body becomes accustomed to the remedy.
